DAVID ROY OCOTLA

Born in Mexico City in 1984. David Roy Ocotla’s work is recognized by his iconic portraits with a strong influence of urban art mixed with classical visual art techniques, that elevate and captivate the feelings of those that inspire him, basing himself on the dialogue and exercise of the understanding and questioning of his environment and daily space, through the diverse pictorial, visual and conceptual problematics.

Roy Ocotla began his self taught career since his early 14 years in the urban context of Mexico City, his artistic evolution and exploration with painting, drawings, graphic and objects, opening his trajectory to become an artistic with a unique and original focus. Roy Ocotla then began his formal career in Visual and Plastic Arts at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado in the ENPEG “La Esmeralda”, where he was awarded honorable mention from the XXXIV Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven and the Premio Nacional de Pintura Julio Castillo in 2014.

His works are in dozens of private collections around the world, having being exhibited in many independent shows, highlighting his recognitions and participations in La Esmeralda (MX), Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico (MX), Museo de Arte Moderno de Toluca (MX), Galería Tonalli del Centro Cultural Ollin Yoliztli (MX), Casa del Lago Juan José Arreola (MX), Galerie Encadrement Les Démons de Notre-Dame (CA), Art Medellin (CO), Art Lima (PE), Art Plus Malaysia (MY) and Singapore Contemporary (SIN). Additionally, within his more recognized projects in a larger format there are several murals and exhibitions, like the ones in the headquarters of BASF and Innoval, as well as the Centro Medico Subway Station.
